About us

What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the inspired written Word of God given to holy men.

We believe that there is One God, eternally existing in three Persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Son who is Jesus Christ, God’s only Son. He lived and died, rose again and ascended to Heaven and He is coming back again.

We believe that Jesus was sent to man and that whoever believes in him and confesses He is Lord, shall have everlasting life.

We believe in the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross that brings man into right relationship with God.

We believe that after repentance from sin and faith in the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, being baptized in water.

We believe in the Holy Ghost who was sent from God to man to convict and convert sinners and to dwell in the believer and to keep the believer from sin.

We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Ghost following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service.

We believe in the Blessed Hope that Christ is coming back for His church (believers) and that without salvation in Jesus Christ, no man shall see the Lord (the second coming of the Lord); and that the Church (believers) will be caught up and will go to be with the Lord forever.

Lead Pastor

ALVIN DARLING

Pastor Alvin Darling was born in Newark, New Jersey, and was raised by his grandmother, Lilla Darling.  He has memories of his grandmother always taking him to church where he would sleep through a lot of it and they would have to wake him up to sing.  When he was very young he attended what was then Smith Memorial COGIC in Newark and later he was a member of Deliverance under the pastorate of the late Apostle Skinner.  He attended the Deliverance Bible Institute.

One of the most memorable times of his life was when he met his wife, Patricia Bullock Darling, and they are the parents of Christopher and Shaun and grandparents of Jeremiah Alvin Darling.

Pastor Darling subsequently joined the Greater Mt. Zion Church and answered the ministry call on his life in November 1979.  He was an associate minister there until he was appointed Pastor in 2001 of Greater Mt. Zion and the Old Ship of Zion.

Pastor has traveled throughout the US and Europe spreading the gospel through music, but now he has taken on the challenge to pastor and considers it the most challenging effort he has experienced but at the same time, the most rewarding.  His love for God and people has helped both of his congregations to grow spiritually as well as naturally.  Although music is an integral part of Pastor Darling’s life, he is committed to presenting God’s Word to a hurting and lost generation. â€‹
